Joel Humberto Corrales-Vega was under the influence of methamphetamine - or any other drug - when he kicked the door of his former girlfriend early Thursday morning in south-west of Wichita, and shot him, his two children and mother-in-law, police said Friday.
Corrales-Vega, 37, turned the gun against him in the hallway near the bedroom door girls in the 2300 block of South Stony Point, south of Kellogg and west of the path of corn, a said Lt. Ken Landwehr.

"It has improved," Landwehr said the wounded child.
His mother and grandmother, identified in police records as Gloria Morales, 30, and Elana Demeritus, 56, are both expected to survive their injuries, he said.
Corrales-Vega fired at least nine shots during his rampage, said Landwehr, who started just after 3:20, he called Mr. Morales to about 23 hours last night and threatened to come and kill her and her Family, police said.
He arrived just over four hours later, his Cadillac Escalade Beige, blocking the driveway of the house.
Demeritus was his first victim, Landwehr said. She was in her room and was shot several times, including at least once in his chest.
Corrales Morales-Vega shot once in the leg, then went to the room shared by the girls and shot each of them several times in bed before turning the gun against him.
Police do not know where Morales was when he was shot. She was able to move after being wounded, Landwehr said. The officers found her in a front room on arrival.
38-year old brother of Morales' slept in the basement when the Corrales-Vega arrived. When he came upstairs to see what had happened, Landwehr said, it was all over.
Scientists are not sure yet Corrales-Vega, the motive, Landwehr said.
He wore a Mexican driver's license with the name of Valentin Soto Vega. But when the authorities ran his fingerprints through a variety of databases - including the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement United States - they discovered his real name.
He was deported twice to Mexico, police said, and also has a criminal history of the United States.
Federal court records show that Arizona Corrales-Vega was sentenced in 2006 for aggravated assault in Maricopa County in July and was sentenced to more than three years in prison.
He was deported in October 2007, court documents show, and brought illegally to return to the United States at the end of July 2008. About 10 days later, was pulled up and the traffic offense in Glendale, Ariz., police.
He pleaded guilty to return to their country illegally and was sentenced to 15 months in prison, including time served. It 'was released September 18, 2009.
Morales and Corrales-Vega met two months ago and began dating - including going to Disneyland with Reimy and Dayanara - but the relationship ended shortly after their return, police said.
Corrales-Vega, who apparently worked in construction, stayed a while in a house south of Richmond on the property of Mr. Morales, Landwehr said Friday. At the time of the shooting, however, lived in a hotel north of Wichita.
The researchers found an ounce of what appears to be methamphetamine in Corrales-Vega SUV after the shooting, Landwehr said. A toxicology screen is being done to see if he was under the influence of meth or other substances at the time of the shooting.
It will take several weeks before these answers are known, Landwehr said.
Corrales-Vega does not seem to be in danger when he spoke to police in a hospital parking lot just before 22:00 Wednesday, Landwehr said. He had called 911 to report that he believed two men followed him, and at least one armed.
Officers found him and spoke to him, Landwehr said, but found no evidence to support this assertion.
Attacks of rage and paranoia are common side effects of methamphetamine use regular, said Lt. Mitch Dunbar.
"It depends on the user and their state of mind when they eat, and how the body is concerned," said Dunbar.
Regular users of methamphetamine often ingest in grams or fractions of an ounce, he said.
"If you go to an ounce, it will be like for their own use," said Dunbar. "Usually, if a guy has a bit of go, we're going to book him for possession on purpose to sell."
The scientists have spoken with Mr. Morales, and hoped to speak with her grandmother to learn more about the events related to the shooting, he said.
The interviews with the mother was "very incoherent," said Landwehr. "She is very angry."
Investigators are trying to re-Vega Corrales out in the hours before the shooting. No charges are expected in the case.
"There is absolutely nothing I did wrong that we see," said Landwehr family. "We're trying to find answers and help the family, as long as we can." Look
